Panther Career Readiness Module

FIU wants YOU to be career ready! So, with the support of the Florida Board of Governors and the FIU Board of Trustees, the university has built a pathway for you to begin preparing for your career from day one. Starting on your first day of class, you will have access to an engaging module that will guide you through career development resources available at FIU, salary trends and potential earnings for your chosen academic discipline, and more. 

The Panther Career Readiness Module is an outstanding opportunity for all Panthers to hit the ground running and start building a foundation for your future success!  

This is a requirement for all incoming undergraduate students. Please note that a registration hold will be placed on your PantherSoft account in the second semester after your initial enrollment, and you will be unable to enroll for future courses until the requirement is fulfilled. 

Why should you become Panther Career Ready?

For new college graduates, career readiness is key to ensuring successful entrance into the workforce. Career readiness is the foundation upon which a successful career is launched. To ensure your preparedness, FIU has developed this module based on standards determined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). 

Panther Career Readiness Requirements

In order to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from FIU, all incoming undergraduate students must fulfill the following requirements set forth in the Panther Career Readiness Module:

  1. Register with the career center associated with your major by claiming your free Handshake account and completing your profile.
  2. Complete the career readiness module, available online through the FIU Develop portal.
  3. Visit the State University System’s dashboard, MyFloridaFuture, which presents your academic discipline’s salary information at the 1-, 5- and 10-year marks.
  4. Attest that you have been provided with the required information and understand the wage prospects for your chosen major.

How to Access the Panther Career Readiness Module in FIU Develop:

  1. Login to FIU Develop with your FIU student credentials.
  2. Find the Panther Career Readiness Module in your dashboard.
  3. Click Begin Course.

All active, incoming undergraduate students who are required to complete the modules will be automatically enrolled. Please note it may take up to 24 hours after enrollment for the course to appear.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Students will have to complete the Panther Career Readiness Module during their first year of enrollment to avoid having a registration hold placed on their PantherSoft accounts in the first Spring semester following enrollment. If you do not complete the requirements, you will be unable to enroll for Summer and Fall courses.

Beginning with students who entered FIU in Summer 2022, all undergraduate students must complete these requirements before the start of the registration period for their third semester.  Students will have access to the Panther Career Readiness Module in their FIU Develop account beginning the first day of classes of their first semester at FIU.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers, or NACE, defines career readiness as a foundation from which to demonstrate requisite core competencies that broadly prepare the college-educated for success in the workplace and lifelong career management.

Governor DeSantis signed HB 1261 into law establishing a mechanism to connect university undergraduate students to career information. The procedures, as set forth in the bill, will require undergraduate students to do the following, within the Panther Career Readiness Module, during their first year of enrollment:

  • Register with the university’s career center.
  • Complete a career readiness module provided by the university’s career center.
  • Access the State University System dashboard, MyFloridaFuture, which presents the academic discipline’s salary information at the 1-, 5- and 10-year marks.
  • Attest that they have been provided with the required information and understand the wage prospects for their chosen major.

The established procedures must also include placing a hold on student registration before the end of the first year of each student’s enrollment if the requirements have not been met.   

Undergraduate students, as defined in the legislation, include full-time and part-time, degree-seeking, first-time-in-college students, transfer students, and readmitted students. 

The Panther Career Readiness Module is located in your FIU Develop portal.

Career and Talent Development (CTD) at FIU has partnered with Handshake, a modern career development platform, to be your one-stop shop for launching your career. 

Handshake enables you to:  

  • Access personalized job recommendations based on your major and interests.
  • Register for career fairs and network with employers.
  • Manage on-campus interviews with top companies. 
  • Schedule appointments with your career advisors. 

Please note, all FIU students’ accounts are preloaded into the Handshake system. Please go to Handshake to claim your account with your FIU email. 

In order to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from FIU, students must fulfill the requirements set forth in the Panther Career Readiness Module, which include registering with your career center by claiming your Handshake account and completing your profile upon entering the university.

In addition, you will have access to many career development resources and opportunities to assist in achieving your career goals. 

Steps to activate:

  1. Visit fiu.joinhandshake.com.
  2. Click Florida International University SSO login and enter your FIU credentials.
  3. Check your email and “Confirm Email.” 
  4. Complete your profile by adding work experience, organizations and skills.

  2. Search for Panther Career Readiness Module in your dashboard.
  3. Begin course.
